What a great read. This is a fragmented memoir from a guy who has savored his life. It's funny and poignant, and the simultaneous aggression and self-effacement is hilarious, charming, excruciating. The hundred words can stretch through time amazingly far (many lovers; many old relatives) or just be crystalline (a mother's fury at the father's only night out, ever; sex in middle age; or so many with beautifully timed punchlines like "Sid" and "Rival" and "My Father Apologized"). The form makes you wonder why certain stories are next to other stories. It's a kind of meditation on the whole of a life that made me sad, like this book is written and the guy might be partway out the door already. "Conjure Stones" ends it with perfect understatement: here's a person thinking about what it means to be near the end of a full life and isn't really ready to go.Product details

What a treasure this is...witty, wry, keenly observed, tonally precise and pitch-perfect. Some will make you laugh and some will just destroy you...in a way that makes you realize how lucky we are to be living this life we're living. So many capacious, beautiful stories nestled inside these 100-word gems.
